Unsure what to buy for an upcoming baby shower? Check out these cute gift ideas for expectant mums
Have you been invited to a friend or family member’s baby shower, but have no idea what to take as a gift? It can be difficult to know what to buy as a baby shower present, but don’t stress! As a newborn and baby photographer, I’ve spoken to hundreds of new parents and have built a pretty good insight into what they appreciate the most in those first few weeks and months.
I’ve pulled together a list of the top five baby shower gifts I’ve seen, so that you don’t have to spend hours trawling through the internet and pulling your hair out in search of the perfect present. Enjoy!

#5 Knitted Cardigan
A knitted cardigan is a must-have item at the moment. There are so many available on the market in a huge range of different styles! If you don’t know the baby’s name yet, then go for something classic like:

These are easy to purchase on the high street, but I have a couple of local small business recommendations. #4 A Jelly Cat Toy
An absolute staple in every family household! Jelly Cat toys are loved and treasured for years, as well as being super high quality and washable. You can pick these up very easily (so a great choice if you’ve left present buying to the last minute!) View Gifts in Thames Ditton is a lovely stockist and always has a large display available. Other local stockists are Ely’s in Wimbledon and Fenwicks (formerly Bentalls) in Kingston. My personal favourite is the Bashful Fudge Bunny, but to be honest they’re all adorable so you’ll be spoilt for choice!
#3 Spa Day
As a maternity photographer, I’m yet to meet a single pregnant person that wouldn’t LOVE a spa treatment. It makes for a great gift because people often forget about a gift for Mum while buying clothes and other basics for baby. This is also an ideal group gift for the baby shower attendees, as you can go for somewhere a bit more luxurious or purchase a voucher for multiple treatments.
A couple of favourites are the Fairmont Windsor Park, Brooklands in Weybridge and (the very boujie!) Pennyhill Park in Bagshot, near Guildford.
#4 Meals
This may sound a little bit unglamorous, but when parents are wrapped up in the newborn bubble and the chaos hasn’t yet calmed down, their own needs come second and this can lead to a lot of not-so-healthy food choices (a few too many deliveroo orders can quickly take its toll on the bank account!)
Some parents try to food prep before the arrival of their baby, but it's not always possible, so getting a voucher for somewhere like Cook is great. They can buy meal beforehand and freeze them, portion it up and defrost when needed. The food is really good quality and they have balanced options to suit everyone and all dietary requirements. Cook have branches in Cheam Village, Surbiton and West Ewell (inside Co-op).
#5 A Newborn Photoshoot Gift Voucher
A newborn photoshoot will capture memories parents will remember for a lifetime. These make great gifts as it's sometimes a booking that’s easily forgotten about, and if left too late the new parents may find their photographer is fully booked up.
