I know that preparing for a photoshoot with little ones can be challenging. That’s why I’ve put together this handy checklist of hand tips!
#1 Suncream- Is it a warm sunny day out when you’ll be needing to wear suncream? Make sure this is applied at least 1 hour prior to the session so that it has enough time to settle into the skin without leaving a shiny/oily cast.
#2 Shoes- Make sure that your all wearing shoes that are comfy and sensible. I know it may be tempting to put your little ones in brand new shoes but due to the session involving walking and running around its important that they’re not upset by rubbing shoes! If you’ve got new shoes for the session make sure they’ve been worn in ahead!
#3 Bug Spray- If your session is booked in a location like Nonsuch Park or Richmond Park then I highly recommend some bug spray to put on your legs, as although the long grass makes for a dreamy setting, you wouldn’t want an critters taking a nibble at your ankle!
#4 Hairbrush, Snacks and Water- These are an absolute must have to be fully prepared for your session. Chances are if you’ve got children between 4-9 they tend to get slightly feral when being in a big outdoor space (I mean who didn’t chase and play fight their siblings at that age?!) Having a hairbrush on hand just means you’ll be able to flatten and sort out any unruly bumps and stray hairs. As for the snacks and water, these are self explanatory, after lots of running around it probably the first thing your little ones will delve into your bag for. If you have a child that has a habit of being defiant or acts up around new people, it can also be great to have their favourite snack as a bribe.
#5 Bib- If you’ve got a little one under 2 its best that you pop a bib on them while you travel. This stops the photoshoot outfit being patched with dribble by the time you arrive. It also gives you an extra safety net against any sick that might happen on the journey! It’s also a good idea for under 1s to have a spare outfit just in case (touch wood it doesn’t happen) of any poo or pee accidents.
So to round up make sure:
Suncream is applied early
Everyone has comfy, sensible shoes
Bug Spray for long grass
Hairbrush
Snacks and Water
Bibs and spare clothes for the littlest
