Updated: Nov 24, 2024

Trying to come up with family days out that won’t break the bank can be exhausting, especially in the current financial climate! As a family photographer in South West London, I’ve gotten to know the best spots for family fun, and always have some good recommendations up my sleeve for clients who want to venture a little further than their local park.

I’ve rounded up the best locations for a fun family day out less than an hour’s drive from my photography studio in Worcester Park

There is such a big choice of places to go and spots to eat, but it’s always good to have an idea of amenities available and the kind of budget needed before setting off. Keep reading for the lowdown of the best budget-friendly days out nearby.

Top five spots for days out near South West London

This lovely family-friendly gastropub has a climbing frame in the garden which is suitable for a variety of ages. It also has a great menu for little ones to cater to all tastebuds, however fussy! Make sure to book ahead as they are very popular in the Surrey area!

Prices: Kids Menu £7.95-£10.95

Munchkins is easily accessed as it’s just off the A3. It's more suited to babies and children between 6 months - 5 years, with a soft play area and lots of role play sets. There are refreshments available and some lovely homemade bakes too! It's a great spot if the weather isn’t great as the kids can exert some energy for the 2 hour session while you enjoy a cuppa in the cafe.

Prices: £5.50-£7.50 (each child ticket includes free adult)

Parking: Available on street in surrounding roads

This 300 year old pub is a wonderland spot for adults and kids alike. A blast in the summer thanks to their top selection of kids events and brilliant garden boasting cute nooks and kids menu, The Leather Bottle is an afternoon well spent with your favourite tiny people. For those heading there by train, it’s a short walk from Earlsfield station.

Prices: £7-£11

Parking: FREE Carpark

Western is always such a good spot when the weather is nice. Why not take a drive to Dorking, and if you’re feeling brave walk up the hill… or if not you can always drive up (no judgement here!). You can look across expansive views, get an ice cream or grab a bite to eat along the road at Smith and Western, a fun cowboy themed restaurant. They’ve got balloons and activity sheets to keep the little ones entertained while you wait from your grub.

Prices: £6.95-£10.95

Parking FREE car park

The new kid on the block, but they’ve got a tremendous setup and are absolutely taking South West London by storm. They offer a variety of food and drink on site and also take up to 5 walk-ins per session, so don’t fret if you haven’t booked ahead, you may still be able to pop along!

Prices: £10-£12
